Sutter Buttes Photos Wanted for Middle Mountain Foundation 2012 Calendar

The Middle Mountain Foundations wants to see your photos of the Sutter Buttes. The best ones will be chosen for the new calendar.

The Sutter Buttes Mystique…

I’ve been fascinated by the Sutter Buttes ever since I was a little kid and I’d drive with my folks south from our home near Anderson, California down to Fresno to visit Uncle Bob and his family. My interest grew when I lived in Chico from 1991-1996. The small volcanic mountain range pokes up out of the verdant and flat Sacramento Valley floor west of Yuba City/Marysville and seems very out of place.

The Middle Mountain Foundation and the Sutter Buttes

Most of the Sutter Buttes is privately owned, but the Middle Mountain Foundation leads guided hikes throughout the year.

And they also put out an annual calendar of the best pictures, and you have until March 18 to submit your best pics. Here’s what the MMF sent me in an e-mail (reproduced with permission):

Middle Mountain Foundation Call for Sutter Buttes Photos

The Middle Mountain Foundation is creating the seventh annual photographic wall calendar featuring the Sutter Buttes. There is a mystery and an allure to the Sutter Buttes that affects those of us living in or traveling through California’s Central Valley.

We are appealing to photographers whose work reflects the diversity of the Sutter Buttes. We are asking you to consider contributing one or more of your most remarkable photographs to be used to promote the “World’s Smallest Mountain Range.” Revenues from the sale of these calendars will help the conservation efforts of the Middle Mountain Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit land trust organization (501c[3]). We lead interpretive walks and provide educational experiences to foster public awareness of the Sutter Buttes’ unique geological and natural history.

The calendar will be a striking photographic tour of the unique landscapes of the Sutter Buttes. We would be thrilled if you would contribute photos to this project. This calendar is being planned for 2012. Submission criteria as follows:

You may submit up to ten images; the month images are generally an identifiable Sutter Buttes object or view. The photos of flowers, trees, animals, rocks, etc., may be selected as thumbnails

Photographs may be cropped to conform to the page size and bleed requirements.

High resolution digital images preferred

1st quality slides also accepted

Low resolution draft images may be submitted via email (will need high resolution of selected photos)

All non-digital media will be returned (supply a self-addressed envelope/label/container)

Submit photos for the 2012 Calendar by March 18, 2011

Your Take on the Sutter Buttes

I confess I have yet to go hiking in the Sutter Buttes, but I’m considering taking my sweetheart Stephanie down there this spring, likely in conjunction with a trip to Chico. But have you been, and if so, what did you think? If not, do you plan to go?
