My partner Stephanie and I just returned from a fantastic trip to Anderson for my mom’s 75th birthday party, and then on to Chico for two days or exploring Bidwell Park trails, the Chico State University campus, and the downtown area. Yesterday we celebrated Steph’s birthday with a gourmet lunch on the patio at Rivers Restaurant in Redding with a full view of the Sacramento River<\/a> and Shasta Bally. Then we hiked the Brandy Creek Trail in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area<\/strong><\/a>, followed by a leisurely swim at the Brandy Creek Marina.<\/p>\n

It’s been a while since I’ve done a hike out at Whiskeytown Lake<\/strong>, and many years since I’ve hiked the Brandy Creek Trail<\/strong><\/a>. Brandy Creek<\/strong> tumbles clear and cool over large granite boulders, and there are several pools for swimming. I also like the variety of plant life: streamside vegetation of alders and water-loving plants, and then the canyon live oaks, douglas firs, ponderosa pines,\u00a0 and incense cedars on the slopes.<\/p>\n
