I took over the book from my coauthor and brother Marc Soares for the third edition in 2008, and I&#8217;m also flying solo on the fourth edition.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m replacing about 10-15 hikes, in some cases because the old hikes are now less attractive (often because of major fires), or because I&#8217;ve found new trails that I know you&#8217;ll like even better.<\/p>\n<h2>Day Hiking: Mount Shasta, Lassen &amp; Trinity Alps Regions<\/h2>\n<p>That&#8217;s a tentative title, but it accurately reflects the expanded territory of the new book. The current edition of <em>75 Hikes in California&#8217;s Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park Regions<\/em> covers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mount Shasta Area<\/li>\n<li>Trinity Divide Mountains to the west of Mount Shasta<\/li>\n<li>Castle Crags State Park<\/li>\n<li>Lava Beds National Monument<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/northerncaliforniahikingtrails.com\/blog\/2022\/05\/12\/burney-falls-hiking-trails\/\">Burney Falls<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Hat Creek Valley<\/li>\n<li>Thousand Lakes Wilderness<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/northerncaliforniahikingtrails.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/09\/hiking-trails-lassen-volcanic-national-park\/\">Lassen Volcanic National Park<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Caribou Wilderness<\/li>\n<li>Ishi Wilderness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/northerncaliforniahikingtrails.com\/blog\/day-hiking-mount-shasta-lassen-trinity-alps-trails\/\">new and expanded Day Hiking book<\/a> will include the top hikes in all of the above areas, plus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trinity Alps Wilderness<\/li>\n<li>Russian Wilderness<\/li>\n<li>Marble Mountain Wilderness<\/li>\n<li>Shasta Valley and surroundings<\/li>\n<li>expanded coverage of Mount Shasta and the Trinity Divide<\/li>\n<li>Shasta Lake<\/li>\n<li>Whiskeytown Lake<\/li>\n<li>Redding and vicinity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There will be about 125 hikes total, and even though all are day hikes, many are suitable for 2-3 day backpacking trips, and I&#8217;ll include info on campsites for backpackers.<\/p>\n<h2>Are the Current Editions Still Good?<\/h2>\n<p>Of course they are. Nearly all of the information is still accurate, although there will definitely be updates in the new editions.<\/p>\n<p>You can buy them at many brick and mortar stores such as Barnes and Noble, REI, and local bookstores. You can also order them on Amazon:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1594850623?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=nortcalihikit-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1594850623\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">100 Classic Hikes in Northern California<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0898864666?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=nortcalihikit-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0898864666\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">75 Hikes in California&#8217;s Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park Regions<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>How Am I Doing the New Editions?<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;m revisiting all the trailheads and double-checking that all driving directions are correct, plus I&#8217;m getting GPS coordinates of all trailheads.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also hiking most of the trails that I&#8217;m picking up from the previous edition, and I&#8217;m doing every inch of every trail that&#8217;s new.<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;m taking tons of new photos and shooting videos of many of key destinations. (Check out my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/NorthernCaliforniaHikingTrails\">Northern California Hiking Trails Youtube channel<\/a> for current vids.)<\/p>\n<h2>When Will the New Books Come Out?<\/h2>\n<p>No earlier than the spring of 2017.
