The good folks at Brooks-Range sent me their new Cirro jacket to review, so I took it on my recent hiking trip to southern Utah<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now I’m not an expert on clothing and gear<\/a>, just a hiker who’s very interested in having quality stuff that will help me better enjoy my time in the outdoors. I look for quality gear that’s tough and lightweight.<\/p>\n

Pros of the Brooks-Range Cirro Jacket<\/h2>\n

1. It’s made of high-quality materials:<\/p>\n

* Primaloft One\u00ae insulation has a high warmth factor for its weight
\n* Pertex\u2122 nylon shell that keeps out most water yet is still breathable<\/p>\n

2. It’s very lightweight (about 14 ounces for my large size)<\/p>\n

3. It compacts down to a very small size, and often space inside my pack is at a premium<\/p>\n

4. Stephanie thinks I look quite stylish in it. (And she’s let me know that I frequently wear clothes that don’t look stylish.)<\/p>\n

5. It stuffs compactly into the zippered chest pocket, so it takes up very little room.<\/p>\n

6. Most importantly, It’ll give you another 10-15 degrees (Fahrenheit) of warmth.<\/p>\n

I first wore it when Stephanie and I reached Lower Calf Creek Falls in Utah on a cool and windy day. The falls area itself was shady and much cooler, and we’d stopped to eat lunch and take pictures like the one below. I was definitely chilly when I put on the Cirro jacket, but I quickly warmed up. The jacket stopped the stiff breeze completely, and the insulation kept my body heat in.<\/p>\n

Cons of the Brooks-Range Cirro Jacket<\/h2>\n

1. It’s a bit on the spency side with a price of $169, so it may not be in everybody’s price range.<\/p>\n

Overall Assessment…<\/h3>\n

The Cirro jacket is a high-quality addition to my daypack or backpack. It gives me that extra cushion of warmth and rain protection. Sometimes I’ll hike to a ridge or peak only to find high winds or clouds that suddenly cool me off. The lightweight and low-bulk Cirro gives me much-needed warmth. (Note: there’s also the Cirro Hoody that — surprise — is just like the jacket, but has a hood. It’s $189)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
