This past winter and spring were so dry that our beloved mountain&#8217;s southern slopes were devoid of the white stuff, which usually sticks around at the highest elevations year-round. (I live on the north side of Mount Shasta, so I&#8217;m treated to white glacier views even on the hottest days of August.)<\/p>\n<p>So here it is, my much belated Mount Shasta pic. I took this recently when Sweetheart Stephanie and I were <a title=\"Autumn hike at Castle Lake near Mount Shasta\" href=\"http:\/\/northerncaliforniahikingtrails.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/24\/late-autumn-hike-from-castle-lake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hiking up at Castle Lake<\/a> and on <a href=\"https:\/\/northerncaliforniahikingtrails.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/29\/heart-lake-trail-reroute-new\/\">up the Heart Lake Trail<\/a>. I caught the last rays of the sun as we were driving down from the lake.
