There are no major fires around Desolation Wilderness, including the Sylvia Lake and Lyons Lake area. However, thick smoke can come in from many miles away, and there is a very large fire burning now near Yosemite National Park. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 4.9pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 4.9pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">I suggest you contact the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/eldorado\"><span style=\"color: #800080; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Pacific Ranger District of the Eldorado National Forest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"> at 530-647-5415 and ask about conditions just before you leave home. You can also call the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/ltbmu\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">, which has jurisdiction over much of Desolation Wilderness, at 530-543-2694. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 4.9pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 4.9pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">It looks like you might live near Arcata on the coast. Consider hiking in the Cascades of southern Oregon. You\u2019re more likely to have a smoke-free experience there, again depending upon wind directions. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 4.9pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 4.9pt 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">How is the smoke situation in your area?
