Mount Shasta resident Robin Kohn has written an excellent book, Mount Shasta Guide to Fun, that details numerous outdoor adventures and tours in the Mount Shasta region, including Mount Shasta, McCloud, Dunsmuir, Castella, Weed, Yreka, Medicine Lake, Lava Beds National Monument, Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge, and the Scott Valley. She has two great websites: the Mount Shasta Author and Guide site, and her Mount Shasta Fun Guide blog.

The Mount Shasta International Film Festival is one of the highlights of the year in our town. Film festival founder and executive director Jeffrey Winters and his dedicated crew of volunteers screen hundreds of films to find the very best to show to locals and visitors every October. Come to Mount Shasta for the film festival and you’ll be treated to spectacular fall colors in town and in the mountains.
Amy Cooper’s Shasta Yoga Center offers yoga classes nearly every day of the week at her studio in downtown Mount Shasta. I have studied with Amy Cooper, and she is a fantastic instructor who explains the fine details of all the postures with much wisdom and with infinite patience. Several other highly qualified instructors also teach at the studio. As a bonus, huge windows frame a stunning view of Mount Shasta. Nearly all the classes (including Amy’s) allow drop-ins. The Siskiyou Land Trust (SLT) is a community based non-profit organization that strives to protect open space, ranch and farmlands, forest and wetlands, natural resources, scenic viewsheds and wildlife habitat in beautiful Siskiyou County.
The Upper Sacramento River Exchange is very active promoting the health of local streams and watersheds. They also construct and improve trails in the area.

The Sisson Museum is located at the Fish Hatchery where Lake Street meets Old Stage Road just west of the town of Mount Shasta. It has a wealth of information on local history. You also have the opportunity to visit the fish hatchery itself, likely under the watchful eyes of hungry osprey.
