Big Basin Redwoods State Park Trails Gambolin’ Man Style

by John Soares on June 16, 2010

I was envious that my brother and co-author Marc Soares got to do so many of the best Bay Area and Santa Cruz hikes for our 100 Classic Hikes in Northern California book, including the Skyline-to-the-Sea trail in Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

I’ve only done a short day hike on the Skyline-to-the-SeaTrail, and I always wanted to more.

And now Gambolin’ Man’s latest post with its extensive description and dozen-plus photos has me pining to really explore the area:

Beginning at Rancho del Oso, the sea level outpost of Big Basin Redwoods State Park – a parcel of historic land situated about fifteen miles north of Santa Cruz, on Highway 1, across from the Pacific Ocean — you can hike ‘n bike sixteen miles round trip and enjoy a super-fun, not overly strenuous outing to a series of three (depending on how you count ‘em, four) renowned plungers known as Berry Creek Falls, Silver Falls, Golden Falls and Golden Cascade.

Great job Gambolin’ Man. Keep ‘em comin’!
