Here’s what the Siskiyou Wanderers have planned for February hikes:
Feb 4: Bunny Flat/Mount Shasta: Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe from Bunny Flat to the Old Ski Bowl on Mount Shasta. Alternate activity is to hike the north shore of Lake Siskiyou. AD: 6 miles THE: 6,900′ AEG: 1,200′ PMP: Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 9:00 am.
Feb 11: Fifth Avenue East: This is a road hike north of Montague and the Siskiyou County Airport (not the Montague Airport). No-host lunch at the Dutchman in Montague, or Ming’s Chinese Restaurant in Yreka after. AD: 6 miles THE: 2,700′ AEG: Minimal PMP: Montague Statue T: 9:00 am.
Feb 12: McConaughey Gulch Road: A new road hike. Walk the county road up McConaughey Gulch in Scott Valley. We can start somewhere near the Eastside Road junction and hike through rustic farmlands and beautiful landscapes. I’ve never been in this drainage, but have always wanted to take a look. It’s time! AD: 8-9 miles THE: 2,880′ AEG: 500′+ PMP: Bob’s Ranch House, Etna T: 9:00 am.
Feb 18: Mount Hebron/Rattlesnake Butte: Hike the old roads in the Rattlesnake Butte area with beautiful views of Mount Shasta and the surrounding mountains. AD: 9.5 miles THE: 4,260′ AEG: 300′ PMP: A-12 and Hwy 97 T: 9:00 am.
Feb 25: Castle Crag Area: If the conditions permit we’ll hike up to the PCT to check out Burstarse Falls, if it’s crummy, we’ll just walk up a paved road. AD: 6 miles THE: 2,000′ AEG: 1,000′ PMP: Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 9:00 am.
