Last Wednesday I told you about the Siskiyou Wanderers’ July 2 hike to Fawn Meadows in the Trinity Divide Mountains west of Mount Shasta. Well, the crazy gang hikes every week, even in winter.
So here’s the entire Siskiyou Wanderer’s July hiking schedule for ya. Feel free to join ‘em.
July 2: Fawn Creek Meadows:
Above Forest Road 26 to Gumboot Lake there is a lovely meadow snuggled by a forest road that is well know for its flowers (hopefully there will be plenty) and beautiful scenery. After the hike we will travel to Connie Marments place at 712 Meadow Ave, Mt. Shasta for a potluck lunch. Bring a favorite dish to share. AD: 6-7 miles THE: 5,650′ AEG: 800′ – 1,000′. PMP: Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 8:30 am.
July 9: Goosenest:
Get a great view of Shasta and Butte Valleys. Hike from the lower trail-head, but if you want to wimp out, the upper trail-head cuts the hike in half and reduces the gain to a mere 1,000 feet. AD: 8 miles THE: 6,400′ AEG: 2,000′. PMP: Highway 97 and A-12 T: 8:30 am.
July 16: Bingham Lake:
Hike to this beautiful lake in the Russian’s. Those with extra ambition may climb Russian Peak from the lake. Peak entails and additional 1,000′ gain cross-country, some brush. AD: 6 miles THE: 6,400′ AEG: 1,000′ PMP: Callahan T: 8:30 am.
July 23: Tamarack and Twin Lakes:
Hike to three fine lakes south of Castle Crags near the Grey Rocks outcrop. This w ill be a partial loop hike with some road walking and some tra il. AD: 6.5 miles THE: 5,000′ AEG: 1,200′ PMP: Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 8:30 am.
July 30: Deadfall Lakes & Mt. Eddy:
Hike from the lower trail-head up through the meadows to Lower, Middle, and Upper Dead Fall Lakes. If you want to fish, go for it. Those with more ambition can hike to the top of Mt. Eddy(elev. 9,025′), an additional 1,240′ gain from the Upper Lake. AD: 6-10 miles THE: 6,200′ AEG: 1,300′ – 2,800′ PMP: Edgewood Junction T: 8:30 am.
