Join the Siskiyou Wanderers for April Siskiyou County Hikes

The Siskiyou Wanderers hike just about every Thursday year ’round somewhere in or near Siskiyou County. Check out the Siskiyou Wanderers website for more information. Here’s the April schedule from the site:

April 2: Carter Meadows Ski and/or Snowshoe:

Cross Country Ski and/or Snowshoe this beautiful area west of Callahan near Salmon Mtn Summit. Those who wish to hike could do pheasant loop on the roads behind Callahan, or Eastside Road.AD: 5-6 miles THE: 6,900′ AEG: 1,500′ PMP: Callahan T: 9:00 am.

April 9: Scarface Road:

Walk the road on the west side of Shasta Valley while the high country remains blanketed with snow. Starting point depends on snow levels, hopefully can start near junction of Winters Gulch Rd. Mud might be encountered. After the hike we can travel to the Pizza Factory in Weed for a no-host lunch and social. AD: 7-8 miles THE: 2,800′ AEG: 1,000′ PMP: Gazelle Grange T: 9:00 am.

April 16: Lover’s Leap:

A cross country hike to a prominent butte above the Gazelle Callahan Road. One should be awarded with outstanding views and hopefully some wildflowers. Scott Valley folks can meet at the north temini of Masterson/Gazelle-Callahan road junctions about 9:40 am. AD: 6 miles THE: 4,500′ AEG: 500′ PMP: Gazelle Grange T: 9:00 am.

April 23: Black Mountain:

This hike has not been done since 2003 and was suggested by Al for this spring. Most of the hike will be steep with some cross country and old skid trails. Outstanding views and some wildflowers should be out. This dominate mountain is just south of the Klamath River, and southeast of I-5 from Colliers rest area. According to old hiking records their was an observation tower at the top during WWII. AD: 4-5 miles THE: 3,080′ AEG: 2,030′ PMP: Yreka Mall T: 9:00 am.

April 30: French Creek/Miner Creek Loop:

An enjoyable road hike located near Etna passing ranchlands, creeks, and some forested areas. After the hike, enjoy a no-host pie, coffee and social at Bob’s Ranch House. AD: 8 miles THE: 2,850′ AEG: 600′ PMP: Bob’s Ranch House, Etna T: 9:00 am.

T: Meeting time at PMP.
