Last night was a big event in the town of Mount Shasta in southern Siskiyou County, with most businesses staying open late and offering goodies and specials to entice visitors. That’s why I was at Village Books, Mount Shasta’s premier bookstore, sitting at a table hawking my two hiking guides, 100 Classic Hikes in Northern California, third edition, and 75 Hikes in California’s Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park Regions, revised edition.
Highlights of the evening:
Chatting with fellow author Robin Kohn, who just wrote a fantastic book called the Mount Shasta Guide to Fun. You gotta get it if you spend any time at all in Siskiyou County. It’s available at Village Books, other local outlets, and directly from Robin.
Chatting with fellow author William Miesse, who had the highest number of sales among we three authors, largely because his Sudden and Solitary: Mount Shasta and Its Artistic Legacy, 1841-2008 is such a stunningly beautiful book. His book is available nearly everywhere.
“Oohing” and “Aahing” over Dave Sjostedt’s gorgeous pictures of Mount Shasta area nature spots. Dave works at Village Books and sells cards and prints of his photographs there.
Visiting with friends who dropped by, and meeting new people.
Eating new owner Kim Padilla’s delicious cookies. Kim is a fantastic baker; I have a hard time resisting her tasty treats.
