Thousand Lakes Wilderness Backpacking Trip This Weekend

by John Soares on October 23, 2008

Found this posting on the Shasta Outdoor Fun Forum run by the Redding Record Searchlight:

Sierra Club’s Thousand Lakes Wilderness backpack trip: Oct. 25 to 26. Camp in Lassen National Forest’s Thousand Lakes Wilderness after hiking in 2.5 miles: Day hike without full packs. Trout fishing. Dogs on leashes welcome. Possible carpool from Redding. Call 926-1849 to sign up.

I love the Thousand Lakes Wilderness – Lake Eiler, Everett Lake, Magee Lake, and a bunch of other lakes, not to mention Magee Peak (a fun climb). If you go, make sure you prepare for very cold conditions. It’s autumn, and the weather can really be fickle, beyond the for-sure-gonna-be-butt-freezing-cold mornings.

Here’s a picture of Lake Eiler from Hike 39 – Magee Peak and Thousand Lakes Wilderness - in my 100 Classic Hikes in Northern California, third edition:
