Box Canyon Trail Maintenance – It’s Good for You!

by John Soares on October 17, 2008

Yesterday I wrote about my recent hike on the Box Canyon Trail located just above the Upper Sacramento River, just below Lake Siskiyou, and just west of the town of Mount Shasta. The Mount Shasta Trail Association (I’m on the Board of Directors) is sponsoring a Box Canyon Trail maintenance day:

Come help do some needed maintenance on the Box Canyon Trail just below the Box Canyon Dam at Lake Siskiyou. Here’s the skinny from Mount Shasta Trail Association President Joe Wirth:

“TEN VOLUNTEERS FOR TRAIL MAINTENANCE NEEDED ON OCTOBER 25TH! The Box Canyon Trail located just below the Lake Siskiyou Dam needs “spiffing up.” The trail was conceived and built by the MSTA several years ago and is in need of some basic maintenance, improved drainage in a muddy area, and rerouting in one section. This one-day project is perfect for first time trail volunteers since the MSTA will provide tools, safety training, team leaders, and lunch. The first ten people to respond will be the team. Volunteers need to bring water, gloves, and to dress in layers that can be removed as the temperature goes up during the day. We plan to meet at 9:00 AM in the parking area right next to the Lake Siskiyou Dam. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact me as soon as possible by responding to joe.wirth AT prodigy.net or with a telephone call to 530-926-2858.”

So here’s your chance to do a good deed for the hiking community. You’ll see beautiful scenery and hang out with beautiful people. And you can find out about the Mount Shasta Trail Association and all the good work it does.
