More Hazards from Rock Slides and Rock Falls

by John Soares on October 16, 2008

I recently wrote about the hazards of rock slides and rock falls with a special reference to a recent rock slide in Yosemite.

Now it turns out that a hiker was killed by a falling rock/rock slide in San Bernadino County in Southern California:

An 18-year-old hiker died Sunday afternoon on a trail near Lytle Creek after being hit with a rock that came loose from a nearby mountain.

Emergency crews received a call around 3:30 p.m., that a hiker had been hit and was unconscious, according to David Nunez of the San Bernardino County Fire Dept.

Helicopters were deployed to the area and a medic was dropped at the scene to perform CPR.  The victim could not be revived and was pronounced dead.

Be careful around slopes!
